I cannot help but mention from every action comes a consequence. There is no reason to think actions are only pessimistic, even doing good we learn to become more aware to improve in life. Sacrificing individuality will seem at first senseless but will also make one want to rebel. Reason being is that conforming to society is supposedly made to protect to people however it is not one’s satisfaction. When someone in society steps out conformity they are viewed as someone who is not apart of the world. The values that society teaches them, make it seem as though being different and sense of self is a sin. Everything out the norm is considered as a crime that needs to be punished. The secureness of the values created makes it hard to create a sense of individuality. Hester is a perfect example of Emerson’s quote; to step out of the norm, Hester was a conformist. Due to her action she punished and outcast from society for committing adultery. She was able to teach her daughter to satisfy her happiness and no one elses, her dignity is what matters. It is still inconceivable how Hester did not want to conform after society shunned, however it makes sense now that not everyone wants to be viewed the same as everyone
