Overreacting is a normal thing for people to do. This is shown in Trish's short story "Bananas." Trish, Alessia, and Syd overreact when they are informed about Sidney getting laid off from his job at GameStop. The four of them devise a plan for Trish, Alessia, and Syd to steal money from GameStop as an act of vengence in Sidney's honor. Trish uses plot and theme in the story "Bananas" to convey how people in strong friendships or any positive relationship would be willing to sacrifice anything for the other(s). Trish uses plot in the story to express the progress they made towards the legal ending that was beneficial to everybody. In the exposition, Trish, Alessia, and Syd learned about Sidney losing his job. This is where they came up with the idea to burglarize GameStop. The stolen money would be a surrogate for what Sidney could no longer bring home to pay the bills. "If they do not have Sidney’s income that is one less down payment they can put on their house, which would really affect them so they assume that they just need to rob …show more content…
For instance, when Sidney was in the restroom, Alessia, Trish, and Syd made the decision to burglarize GameStop alone, so the crime would not be immediately connected to Sidney. They also wanted to burglarize GameStop, because they have "one less down payment" that goes into paying the bills for the house they shared with Sidney. Stealing from GameStop also emphasizes their bond with Sidney, because they invested lots of time and effort into preparing to burglarize specifically GameStop. They could have robbed a bank, which would give them more money rather than choosing a store that doesn't even have enough to pay an employee. They felt like they should get revenge on the store that hurt their friend who "took great pride in his job." Further along in the story, it says, "“Good point. Let us do this thing for Sidney!” Alessia

Joseph Green and Konrad Tom's film Mamele depicts a vastly different cultural and family dynamic in a different setting than the dynamic found in traditional Jewish shtetls. Whether it be incorporating Jewish holidays or traditional family roles, producers actively depicted Jewish cultural roots into their films prior to Mamele in 1939. In Mamele, a daughter named Chavchi takes on many household responsibilities after the death of her mother and is consequently given the nickname "mamele," or little mother. The family is nontraditional as a result, as Chavchi picks up familial responsibility due to the lack of care and initiative from a drunkard and gambling-addicted father. In addition to an unconventional father figure, Chavchi's many siblings…

For the past several weeks we have been reading memoirs on multiple sources, ranging from the hills of the Appalachian Mountains, to the streets of Chicago. Both of these places come off not only as different in geography but in lifestyle as well. They also share similarities in some instances. In Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance, and Our America by LeAlan Jones, and Lloyd Newman, both stories share similarities in the fact that the people in these stories are restricted by the environment in which they are raised in, but also stricken by poverty which is responsible for the frustrations and hardships in life they face, and the path which was paved for their life. Our America focuses on two boys living on the southside of Chicago,…

Her poetry is most well known for depicting her emotions and life story in a creative way. In “Blackberrying” by Sylvia Plath, the overall theme of longing to return to childhood communicates itself through imagery, sound devices, and figurative language.…

Throughout different generations, ideas and values begin to vary. What was once considered an uncommon way of living is now becoming more normal in today’s society. Older generations are less accepting of these differences because of the time period in which they grew up. In the story, “Snakes,” written by Danielle Evans, these changing concepts are seen through the actions, values, and moods of Tara, her mother, and her grandmother. The grandmother, Lydia, is a southern Caucasian who grew up in a generation in which the people were not as open-minded to differences having to do with race.…
