The Role Of Literacy In My Life

Literacy plays a key role in every one’s life which helps an individual to read, write and understand what others are speaking. People who can read and write are called as literates and who cannot are considered as illiterates. Being literate enables the person to live in any part of the world. For example the person who can read, write and speak in the English can survive anywhere in the entire American continent and my life itself is another good example about how successful a person can be if he is a literate. In the school where I have studied there was a rule that every student and teacher should speak in English during the school hours and when I was an older child studying 8th standard, I was caught speaking in my mother language with my friends. After that, I was punished and ordered to give a speech every morning during the assembly time for the entire month, which really helped me to get rid of the stage-fear. I have also participated in many essay writing competitions and some of them even earned me prizes. Later during the adolescence, I habituated to write a diary where I used to save everything I did in my personal diary. When I was 13 the world 's top pop singer Michael Jackson was very famous even in my hometown and that was for the first time I heard an English song and the song was "Dangerous". From then I started listening to Hollywood songs and even started watching Hollywood movies with subtitles which helped me understand the American 's accent easily. Whenever my father receives a letter from a bank or any other sources I used to read them and used to explain him in detail which was written in the English language, those were the movements where I felt proud of
