Literacy Narrative

I did a lot of writing while I was in the tenth grade. The English teacher I had at the time was the best when it came down to writing. I did not have too much interest in writing at the time but Mrs. Perez changed that, she gave me a new perception on writing and how it can change society. Mrs. Perez would always recommend really good books, one of which was a book called “His Dark Materials”. This story is about a young girl and her allies, fight for the discover of a dark substance called the “Dust”. This changed my perception about writing creatively. I learned that having an imagination can help make your dreams a reality.

Mrs. Perez put out that there is a term paper due by the end of the week. She also mentioned that it could be about anything, so the first thing that came to mind

At the time I was really into computers and gaming in general because I was a kid and videogames kept kids out of trouble from where I was from, so I am usually hooked to them when I am around them. The first memory I have is when I was about three or four years old, and I would be using my dad’s computer to play games like “Reader Rabbit”, or “Lemmings”. I actually knew how to maneuver myself through DOS, and had most of the command lines memorized so that I would be able to play my games on it when my dad was not home. I have been feeling like my writing had evolved to something better now that I knew more about the basics thanks to Mrs. Perez. However she did not like the paper I wrote, she felt that I could do a better job, and she also felt that I owed it to myself to do a better job, because she knew I was capable of doing more with my writing. When I was on my way back home, I thought to myself maybe this is the kick in the teeth I needed to improve on my writing. So I went back home with my head held high because I was really excited about what I could write about. I know I kind of came off like a time boy during my Tenth Grade year in school but

During this time I was having trouble on writing a top level high school paper like a lot of the other students in my class. Looking back on this you could tell that eventually my lack of writing skills would catch up to me and it happened. When I completed the required class over the summer I felt more confident in my writing skills than ever before. I remember our first essay for english III and feeling nervous because it was my first graded essay since taking the class. Once I completed it I remember feeling confident in my work, which is something I really have not felt when writing a paper for a while.…

Project #1: Literacy Narrative I remember walking across the lawn from our tiny add on classroom, up the stairs, and into the second grade class. Walking to my assigned desk directly in front of the window, I sat down in front of my best friend. Sometimes, sleepy and tired, I stared at the giant oak tree in our school yard and watching the clouds move. My first experience with writing was in fourth grade.…

“Writing Literacy Memoir” It 's strange how clearly I remember this paper ,where I can not remember what I did last week. It was a Thursday night sometime during May 2013 where it was a hot, humid night and I was exhausted. Where tomorrow I was supposed to start writing my paper about espionage agencies during the Cold War. It was a 10-page research paper on how the Cold War was impacted by the KGB, MI6, and CIA.…

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

I used to love writing when I was young; however, I fell out of love very quickly. In middle school, I was an avid reader and enjoyed writing but my eighth grade teacher changed this habit completely. The teacher assigned so many essays that at some point I started to see writing as a chore. This outlook on writing continued throughout ninth and tenth grade because of all the work the teachers assigned. I stopped writing and reading for fun, I only wrote and read for school.…

One of the things that has significantly influenced my development was my Advanced Placement English Language and Composition class my junior year in high school. The class was taught by a phenomenal teacher, Mrs. Shaw, who made it virtually impossible for a student to fail the class because of her extreme dedication and amazing teaching. The class made me realize my potential as a writer. At one moment, it was a chore, something that I dreaded doing more than I dreaded washing dishes after Thanksgiving dinner. But after I completed the class, writing became something I actually looked forward to doing.…

Since I had not written anything like this before, the writing process that came along with this paper was new to me. According to the syllabus, writing process means that, “Students will demonstrate composing as a recursive process that includes brainstorming, planning, drafting, reviewing, revising, editing, and proofreading.” Throughout this assignment I completed many activities that Mr. Dunkin assigned as homework that would further help me understand the true concept of writing. The best tool for this paper for me was the section on Literacy Narrative in the Norton’s field guide.…

How on this hellish earth could she ever write an a thousand words essay of her personal experience? Or at least that’s the gist that she got out of it as she didn’t completely understand what she should be doing. The girl then reread the sample literacy narrative provided by her professor, still struggling to understand the concept of what a literacy narrative is or how it should look like if she’s going to write one. During this first short semester in EN 101, I have learned many new skill that I can take with me for the next four years. Without this course, I might not have gotten the chance to have known what a literacy narrative or a textual analysis is. I am not sure I wanted to know what those things were or what they had in store for me. Somehow through crying, panicking, and feeling frustrated, I managed my way through each of these essays. Some were harder than others as usual, but even with the hard essays they seemed not as bad in the end.…

As a child, I had an admiration for learning. Using my mind and problem solving was always so fascinating to me. I was advanced in mathematics and expanding my knowledge and challenging myself was something I desired as a child. However, I was quick to realize that having an interest on one subject and struggling on the other subjects lead me to difficulties. Although I had interests in math, I struggled with reading and writing.…

It takes a lot of hard work for a person to be able to write, let alone be able to write something that would be deemed spectacular by their peers. While some are born literature prodigies, with the ability to sit down at their desk and type up a beautiful novel like there’s no tomorrow, the rest of the world is either left to endure the long process of working up to such a level or to suffer from a lack of what I like to call “composition inspiration.” For the longest time, I was a member of the latter group, and, until I finally found my creativity stranded deep inside myself, I thought that I was doomed to remain stuck in a mundane limbo. In a past version of me, perhaps five to seven years old with a straight blonde bob that tickled my chin and a smile that lit up a dark classroom, I loved learning about subjects such as math and science, but I had always dreaded writing.…

Reading writing are my favorite things to do. To me, a good book is more fun than a night of partying. From "Hal and Me", once could also be said of Nicholas Carr, Scott Karp, Bruce Friedman, and many other bloggers. The difference is, technology hasn 't taken away my ability or my drive to read. The same can 't be said about the former mentioned party.…

How are you doing? I know you must be surprised to see a letter from me because we haven’t had much contact since I graduated from middle school. Do you still remember me, the conceited student who appeared to be so bored of your class but enjoyed talking with his neighbors even sitting in the front roll? Admittedly, I had to apologize for being a troublemaker who always made your class noisy, but thank you for your tolerance and patience, I have gradually become more well-mannered and learned not to be too harsh on others’ misconduct. With my diligence and determination, I always had the highest English grade in exams, which indeed drove me to become more complacent with the grammars and materials you taught in class.…
