Understanding language is very important for a person to become a productive member of society, because language is what connects everyone to other people and to their landscape. This paper will discuss the findings from non-experimental, descriptive research that focuses on literacy in the landscape. The selected literacy is connected with gas prices and other various things that may cause a person to stop at a service station, and is located at I-30 and 1903. This particular literacy was chosen because the prices and competition between each location affects every family in several ways. For instance, the three service stations at I-30 and 1903 are constantly changing their prices to compete with each other for customers. Typically, people choose to fill up their tanks at the cheapest location, so this puts pressure on the stations that are near each other to keep lowering their prices to maintain the incoming flow of customers. The gas stations usually also offer other services that may gain more customers. Three separate examples of this are shown at the stations located at I-30 and 1903. The Pilot service station located at 2226 FM 1903 IH-30 Caddo Mills, TX uses the most bold form of communication to compete with the other fuel stations. This particular location houses not only the service station, but also a popular fast food restaurant. The giant M advertising McDonald's is what attracts many customers passing through town on the highway.
