Before I commenced this unit, literacy to my knowledge referred to read the elements of the text—like words, colours, and signs. Children learn all these skills at an early stage through play, where children are engaged in a range of activities in order to convey meaning. After I studied about the Queensland studies Authority as mentioned in Green (2006) I recognised the term literacy also means understanding the meaning and purpose of the text, and analysing the text- how text works ideologically, why it has constructed the way it was.
