Listeria Outbreak: A Case Study

Improved Essays
First, we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to all the families affected by the listeria outbreak. Together with the Center for Disease Control, we have determined that the processing equipment had a non-functioning part designed to spray an anti-bacterial solution on the cantaloupe. A chlorine spray should have been used to clean the fruit of bacteria. The source of neglect, if used, would have prevented contamination.
Currently, our officials are meeting with the 28 state agencies affected to determine best practices in the event of a reoccurrence. The FDA is currently drafting stricter guidelines to prevent foodborne illness. We are working closely with Denver’s Board of Environmental Health and other health officials to raise

    Blue Bell Case Analysis

If I was an employee at Blue Bell who was aware about the situation, I would’ve contacted my seniors and if there was no action taken, I would’ve tried to reach their seniors. However, if the company still didn’t take responsibility and bring forward the issue, then I wouldn’t have gone to the media, but I would’ve definitely gone to the Food and Drug Administration because that is the right thing to do when it comes to a matter of life and death. Moreover, I don’t think it is okay for employees to talk to the media unless the situation is analyzed properly, that’s why we have a public relations department. We as practitioners should try to be proactive when it comes to communicating a crisis and as we have learnt that employees should be the first ones to know as they are the frontline of the…

I was never a big McDonalds, Burger or Wendy’s person, but two places that I have loved since my first bite are Chipotle and Chick-Fil-A. Both are places that I would eat at on a weekly basis, at minimum. This ended in October 2015. There were two separate outbreaks of the bacteria were investigated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service and public health officials in several states. In the first outbreak 55 people were infected by the foodborne illness in 11 states, of which 21 were hospitalized.…

In Eric Schlosser’s, Fast Food Nation, Schlosser says, “Roughly thirty-five million pounds of ground beef produced at the Columbus plant -- enough meat to provide every single American with a tainted fast food hamburger -- was voluntarily recalled by Hudson Foods in August of 1997” (Schlosser 194). Even though this occurred about nineteen years ago, it is still a problem today. In the news, Chipotle has also been traced with E Coli and the meat has been recalled. It is scary thinking that even after all these years, there can still be traces of E Coli in fast food restaurants today.…

Chapter eight was interesting because it discussed managing public health interactions. What this meant was basically assessing where we are now and where we want to be. I felt this is essential in terms of moving forward with improving the world for future concerns that require public health to step in. Describe your educational and career goals and explain what or who has inspired or helped shape these goals. During my high school years, I recall working in the fields during vacation breaks with my mother harvesting tomatoes, picking up cherries, and pruning grape vines. Fascinating as it sounds, I was always intrigued to understand why fruits and vegetables spoil or often cause food poising in humans. Although, when I questioned my mother why these fruits spoil, she responded it was due to "little bugs," which was not a sufficient response.…
