Research shows that 93 percent of employers consider quality communication skills more important than a college graduate 's major (Lohrey 2013). The ability to transmit and accept information with a high probability that the content will be passed accurately is an essential action that is performed daily by every human on the planet. Despite the countless practice, however, the art of communication has yet to be perfected. Because of this, 46 percent of employees said that they routinely received confusing or unclear directions, with 36 percent of these employees commenting that the issue occurred up to three times a day. Successful communication is dependent on the collaboration of verbal cues, listening, and body language. To achieve active listening status it is imperative to approach conversations with patience and attentiveness. Active listeners do no respond until they have all of the information. Instead of honing in on what is familiar, so that they can respond efficiently, they focus their attention on what is different so as to better appreciate the content of the dialogue. This style encourages the use of eye content, body language, and imitation to more proficiently retrieve verbal data. Distraction during conversation, however, can be deafening and is the cause of poor listening skills in the workplace.
