Listening In A Fishbowl

On the first day of the fishbowl, I did not participate. I was super scared and terrified. I wanted to see how it went before I go in but since that was a practice round. I did not want to look like a fool, not knowing what to do. The second day was a whole different story. I was one of the first group of people that started the conversation. Since I was one of the few that started the conversation, I didn't walk in which it made it less awkward. But when I wanted to get out, I felt rude. Every time I’m in a deep conversation when someone, I’m always listening. A way to know that I'm listening is when I'm taking notes, making eye contact, or even asking questions. One skill that I need to approve on is risk taking. For me to actually be the first ones to be in the conversation was a huge risk taking moment. I have always been the shy one that had to be told to get in the conversation. I always had that mentality that no one listened to me and that my opinion does not matter. But the older I’m getting, I’m also getting wiser. I shouldn't let people tell me anything. I should just mind my own opinion and do what I think is right. I was a deep, responsive listener. My weakness in this area would be falling off track and trying to remember what the last person said. I have such a short term memory. I wouldn't be a good clear, purposeful talker because I tend to get my ideas confused. I always get mixed with my words so the things I say do not match the things in my head. That's the weakness of it. A strength in this area would be that I wouldn't be so shy! I would be talking all the time and I guess, teachers like

One of my personal heroes who displays naturalist intelligence is Steve Irwin (1962-2006). As a kid, I grew up watching Steve’s television series, “The Crocodile Hunter”, a wildlife documentary show which followed Steve as he went out into the wild in various countries around the world to interact with animals. His show went on to become the highest ever rated on the Animal Planet channel. Steve was a strong supporter of environmentalism and the conservation of endangered species. One of his accomplishments was the Steve Irwin Conservation Foundation, which is now known as Wildlife Warriors Worldwide, an organization established with the intention to educate people in the protection of injured, threatened, or endangered wildlife, and some of…

I believe that strong communication skills can get you anything and anywhere. Communication is how we learn new things about one another. Without communication between people, nothing would get accomplished, and we would all be lost. Another one of my strengths was empathy. Some strengths of my speech were my correct use of oral citations and providing evidence to support my main ideas, including the use of hand gestures. Some weaknesses of my speech were staying monotone, swaying back and forth, and focusing on the notecards and one spot of the classroom. My goals for next time are to not move back and forth, to vary my pitch and volume, and to practice in front of a mirror multiple times before the speech. Reflecting on the strengths and weaknesses in any situation will help with improvement for the next time in order to accomplish greater…

Communication skills are something that can always be worked on and improved. I feel like my ability to listen is far superior to my ability to express myself verbally although I am comfortable with talking in front of large groups of people. Another strength I have is that I am good at keeping an optimistic look on things, it takes a lot to get me into a negative state of mind. I think keeping positive would come in handy when working with the students when developing new skills as it would keep them positive and they would continue to keep trying and that could be what they need to succeed.…
