In November of 1987, a seven year old girl was murdered. The young girl’s name was Lisa Steinberg. It was suspected that her parents were the main culprits of the murder. Later, American Justice aired a documentary called “A Family Secret: The Death of Lisa Steinberg.” This documentary gave the world insight on what was going on in Lisa’s life. Law & Order also released an episode called “Indifference.” After releasing the show, they claimed to have taken no ideas from the original case. Although there are some differences between the Law & Order episode and the American Justice episode, it is obvious that Law & Order simply regurgitated information from the actual Lisa Steinberg case. She had short, curly, salt and pepper colored hair. It was not hard to look at her physical appearance and see that she had been beaten. She could have been perceived as an older lady. Her face was disfigured, her lip was swollen, and she had broken bones. While being investigated, they took pictures and recorded Hedda. They lifted her shirt to show broken ribs and moved her hair around to reveal bald spots. At one point, they even showed her leg which was on the verge of gangrene. Hedda also exhibited signs of mental abuse. Throughout the documentary, she seemed as if she had been brainwashed by her husband, Joel Steinberg. The night before their daughter Lisa died, Joel hit her hard enough to knock her unconscious. When he presented the young girl to her mother, she asked what happened. Joel responded that it did not matter what happened and that he would take of her when he returned home.
