Before Lisa McMann even begins her writing for the day you can find her out climbing and hiking up the mountains right outside her backyard (About Lisa McMann). Lisa McMann may not be a well known author but her descriptive writing style has captivated thousands. From a young teen sucked into dreams in Don’t Close Your Eyes, to a vision that starts coming true in the novel Visions, and even a mysterious, haunted desk in Cryer’s Cross, Lisa’s writing style has been found in each of her novels. Her dream of writing began when she was in fourth grade. Her teacher had submitted her writing to a local competition where she won (Seventeen). It was this point forward that McMann had known she wanted to be an author. Today, Lisa McMann is a award winning author, with a New York Times bestselling book under her belt. McMann describes that the reason she wrote Visions was due to an interest in narcolepsy (About Lisa McMann). Although McMann had wanted to add narcolepsy into her novel, it never made the cut into her final copy. Lisa McMann instead took some of the plot from her last novel Don’t Close Your Eyes and added it into Visions. Visions is primarily about a girl who can predict the future which was strikingly similar to the plot of Don’t Close Your Eyes. McMann has said that the reason for this was because she wanted to write about a different topic but really liked the idea of a vision predicting the future. Lisa also uses a familiar story, Romeo and Juliet (Visions pp 35-45). The reference of this story shows the connection between the main character and her love similarly to the same love shown in Romeo and Juliet.
