The United States of America’s current liquor law is being abused and overused by underage teenagers. Liquor is widely sold to minors all around the world. The liquor store owners and workers are responsible for selling alcohol to minors under the legal age without verifying proper identification at the time of the purchase. According to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, there are over “5,000 people under the age of twenty-one die each year from alcohol.” The city of El Cajon, California is helping combat all the problems with underage drinking by reinforcing the sales of alcohol beverages that goes out each day to consumers nationwide every year.

Also, lowering the legal age of alcohol would lower the amount of troubled college students in El Cajon would get into with the law enforcement. Lastly, many teenagers would argue that if eighteen is an old enough age to vote in an election, then why is that not old enough to consume alcohol? Schools, parents, and police personnel are all being affected by their actions that cause many to rebel for a change. Liquor store owners need to become not only stricter to their customers, but to post signs and other visual images that inform minors of the consequences of purchasing and drinking alcohol based beverages. Is it not frightening to know that your underage child can easily walk in a liquor store and purchase alcohol at ease whenever he or she pleases? Who would not be upset by such events? What would happen if an accident or worse death occurs due to the alcohol a store owner allowed that child to purchase?
