Liposuction can be accomplished either with the use of general anesthesia, or with heavy IV sedation, or totally by local anesthesia. Most common areas people have fat removal done is their thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, waist, upper arms, back, inner knee, chest area, cheeks, chin, neck, calves, and ankles. With liposuction, as with any procedures, you have your candidates who are ideal to work on and treat and you have those who are too high of a risk factor. People with cellulite are one of those candidates who surgeons try to steer clear of because they may develop skin irregularities in the area where the fat would be removed due to the uneven constancy of their skin. Good candidates must have elasticity in their skin so it is able to heal and form to the now missing fat. Candidates should be average if not slightly above average weight for their body and it is always good to be within 30% of your ideal body weight. They should have an overall good health with nothing major as to complicate the surgery or healing process. Most of all ideal candidates should have concentrated pockets of fat that do not respond well to diet and exercise that now has to result in them getting liposuction in the first place. Now age does not play a huge key role when it comes to getting liposuction, but to that statement older people tend to not have as much elasticity in their skin as younger people do so their results may differ. One big misconceived idea of liposuction is that people believe once they have the procedure done that their life is going to be changed completely, but that is not the case. Even though on average they can take out around 11 pounds out and you may appear thinner, you still have to maintain a healthy lifestyle to make the procedure worth it and above all liposuction is not a cure
