In “Chief Joseph Speaks…” --Chief Joseph he states “Whenever the white man treats the indian as they treat each other then we shall have no more wars.”(Joseph). This quote means that when everyone has equal rights and others are not threatened to do things they do not want to do all of the wars will end. Chief Joseph also states “We ask to be recognized as men.”(Joseph). This is meaning the same thing as the quote stated above it. All the Native Americans wanted from the white men was respect and peace. “For the Kiowas the beginning was a struggle for existence in the bleak northern mountains.”(Momaday). This quote supports because it is telling there was a struggle for them to be there , similarly to what Morgan states in his book. “To the west, beyond the mountains, there were no roads at all, only trails.”(Ambrose).
