It is up to the people involved to do their job correctly, so that the message is displayed. In the case of a Disney film, this is usually a moral lesson. In order to do this imagery and setting is used. Under Mufasa’s rule Pride Rock flourishes. There is plenty of food to eat and the place is beautiful and green while on the other side, when Scar rules, the ecosystem of Pride Rock is dying and everyone is miserable. This symbolism using the setting shows what type of kings the two are and again helps the viewer establish that Mufasa is a good and honorable king while Scar is not. This is significant because in Hamlet, there is actually no evidence to support that Claudius is a bad king or that old King Hamlet was even an excellent king. In both versions, however the rightful king is restored to the throne and more easily seen is in The Lion King where the viewer can visually see what effect that has. Which is, of course, a kingdom that looks similar to how it was under Mufasa’s rule.
To summarize, after reading the play Hamlet and then watching the movie, The Lion King, it is easy to see that the creators based their story off of the classic play. Though there are differences among the two, through the use of imagery and setting the viewer can comprehend the plot in a way that shows the connections and contrasts to Hamlet. It can be said that most people do not know that The Lion King can be considered a modern day remake of Hamlet. This just goes to show comparisons can be made in strange
