Lion Gate Mystery

Greg, The mystery of the true nature of the lion gate will continuously puzzle me. Whether or not the lion gate depicted lions is completely based on inference and from the sounds of it the murals on the walls within the citadel were of mythical creatures. I can see it being highly feasible that the lion gates were perhaps not lions entirely but some type of mythical

Based on the what was learned about trust in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, trust is the most basic trait needed in everyday life. Without it, things cannot set into motion. Aslan is portrayed as a great ruler of Narnia, kind and merciful, just as lions were known to be in medieval folklore. He is trusted by the inhabitants of Narnia to lead them out of the Witch’s evil rule. The fact that C.S. Lewis was expressing his opinions and showing the value of trust in the story through the characters is shown in my interpretation of the several events in the…

For my first journal, I choose “Hercules Upholding the Heavens” by artist Paul Manship. It is located in the sculpture courts in the fine arts museum of Houston. What initially attracted me to this piece of art was the sense of power it radiated. Growing up, Hercules has been one of my favorite Disney movies; so having the chance to see one of my biggest fascinations come to life before my eyes obviously sparked something in me. The sculpture itself portrays Hercules performing the eleventh of his twelve labors.…

Overview Dr. Blackwell has done extensive research on the Mycenae’s Lion’s Gate and preliminary research on the Treasury of Atreus. He believes the gate had attachable lion heads that looked back because that would distribute the weight best considering the dowel holes; based on the bodies’ definition and the space for a mane, he thinks they are male lions. He believes the Lion’s Gate relief was at least inspired by Anatolians, specifically by the Hittites. Based on appearance alone, the Lion’s Gate is more three-dimensional than other purely Greek reliefs, and the column is more plain than others, like the ones in the Treasury of Atreus. Perhaps, artisans from the Hittite Empire came to Mycenae in a trade of skilled persons between Mycenae and Hittites, so they could have done some the work themselves.…

In the movie Lion, the cinematographer includes many creative shots and camera movements to enhance the audience's emotions and tell the story from a certain point of view. Cinematographer Greig Fraser captures these shots in order to display the emotion and piece together the stories through Saroo’s memories. One of the major techniques he uses to film these shots and make it more realistic is by taking the actors height into consideration. For instance, the memories Saroo has of himself as a child, those shots are filmed from the perspective of a three foot tall child.…

There was mention the lion as a symbol for God in the Gospel of Mark. “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.” (Mark 1:3) The lion is believed to be signal of strength and the many lion art pieces show the influence of God in Greco-Roman culture. The sculptures of the lions caught my eyes immediately and made me think of the Gospel of Mark and how God’s power was paralleled to that of a lion’s.…

Most notably, India, was led by a revolutionist, Mahatma Gandhi, who sought and won the Indian Independence movement in British-ruled India. While the world saw this politically unstable atmosphere of colonized locations gaining their freedom; the populace of these imperial nations found themselves thrust into the ethical foray of granting independence to colonized nations. Meanwhile, the world stood and took notice of how a country, such as India, was able to seek out and win their independence from Britain and soon other national rebellions ensued. Herein, C.S Lewis began writing a…
