The most prevalent aspect of chapter two that relates to our course content is selecting a practicum and internship site. Throughout the semester we have to go on six site visits, which allows us to gain a better understanding of what types of sites are acceptable for the rehabilitation counseling program to do practicums and internships at. It also helps us gather information about various potential placement settings to see if we are a good fit for the school/agency. The types of information this chapter suggested students to consider includes one’s interest level in the site and if the agency/school is suitable for the student. The reason it is helpful to gain information about several potential sites and to reflect on whether or not it is a good fit for students since the individual will be representing their program and school. An essential part of this chapter is the informed consent, which can be linked to course content and working with individuals with disabilities. The informed consent process allows the client to gain the knowledge and thorough understanding of: (a) what the counseling process entails, (b) the clients rights, (c) confidentiality and its limitations, (d) the counselor’s responsibility, (e) fees, (f) accessing records, (g) the counseling relationship, (h) counselor’s scope of practice and (i) what to do in crisis if it occurs outside of the session.
