A two-party system may seem to be not the most effective way to run a government. But, there are many advantages to having political parties. By having a two-party system, citizens interests and opinions are balanced. Voters are presented with political information in a well manner. Sudden shifts in political trends are discouraged in two-party systems. As a diverse nation, the United States allows citizens to express their own opinions. This encourages political participation. Since many parties share power, it encourages the government's insecurity and instability.

According to the Pluralist theory, interest groups are good for democracy. Even though interest groups are not representative of all interests, the many types of groups still influence others. There is a rise in the number of voters that are becoming independents or non-affiliated with any party. The fewer the number of people that are associated with the Democratic or Republican party give less leeway to influence the voters. Interest groups provide balance to political parties. Without interest groups, political parties could not be brought to the awareness of certain
