Link Leader Application

1. Why do you want to be a Link Leader? I would LIke to be a Link Leader because it the position provides me with an excellent opportunity to make an impact on incoming students lives. Going from junior high to high school is a big transition, especially when you are in a district as large as Wayzata. I was the first in my family to attend Wayzata high school, so I was not quite sure what to expect on the first day. It took a while for me to get the hang of high school, which resulted in a rough freshman year. As a sophomore I have a better understanding of how to do well and how the high school works. Being a Link Leader would potentially allow me to be, for several students, the difference between a great First year or a terrible first year.

2. A student is not participating in an orientation activity. What would you do? What steps would you take to include all members of your group in your activities?

If a student is choosing not to participate in a game or physical activity I would briefly repeat the instructions, in case they are confused. If they still will not participate I would give them verbal encouragement to participate and I expect the student would reluctantly join the activity. At this point I would make sure to continue to encourage and engage the student, not to the point that it annoys them or detracts from the experience of the other

I would love to be a member of the senior planning team because the senior planning team helps promote change within the school. I believe, along with many other leadership teams at Alpena High School, the senior planning team is empowered by the staff, administration, and other seniors to make important decisions that powerfully impact the school and senior class. Without the senior planning team, many decisions would be left to the staff/administration to decide and, while this is still an excellent way to accomplish tasks, it removes the student involvement in the school. I am so grateful to have a school that values student input because it teaches its students how to take responsibility for their learning environment. As a member of the…

Another solution can be that at every orientation, a separate sector of the meeting should focus on a presentation exclusively on student involvement. Student involvement is one of the main keys to a successful experience in college. According to the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), students who are involved commit more time and effort both academically and socially. The majority of students take services and clubs for granted because they are either inadequately informed, or even because they do not expect much of a community college. The…

I have always wanted to be a leader-- someone who will stand up for what’s right, someone who will be fair and have integrity, and someone who will always take the high road. When I was little I always wanted to be a person who could lead people to do great things and for people to have things that they deserve. If someone told me four years ago what I am doing now, I would not have believed them. As a child, I always was somewhat involved whether it being track, taking dance classes, teaching some dance classes to the little girls, girl scouts, and good old art club. However, now I realized how balancing that was nothing compared to now. The ability to balance activities, events, academics/work, and more without spreading yourself too thin is a strong characteristic necessary for any leader. A leader in my eyes is not just someone who has a title but someone who does something so effectively that other people are drawn to what they are doing and want to be a part of it.…
