Link Crew Reflective Essay

My heart was beating fast and the palms of my hands were sweaty. All I could think to myself was, “please do not call on me,” however, with my luck, I was chosen to “approach the mic.” Growing up, I was never a bold or outgoing, I have always been a very reserved individual. Therefore, this was a very big deal for me. This happened my sophomore year of high school. I was granted the opportunity to attend the National Hispanic Institute, Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative program, which was only a week long. The program is centered on being able to speak up and advocate for yourself, as well as, “approaching the mic” which was something they took great pride in. Approaching the mic meant having to speak up to the secretary or anybody …show more content…
The program was named Link Crew and in this program I helped the freshmen have a smooth transition to high school. While I was in NHI I realized that speaking up to a smaller group of people was something I was good at, which is why I decided to join Link Crew. Each group consisted of about eight freshmen and three leaders. I wanted to make a difference in their lives because of what NHI taught me. I also choose to be apart of this program because as a freshmen I needed some guidance. Therefore, I wanted to be an extra resource for the freshmen. There were some difficult times, in which I felt the need to quit because some of the kids were very disrespectful. They did not see the need to listen to another student. It was very frustrating, so I had to speak up and let the program director know in order for him to do something about the situation. Once he realized that some kids were not being involved he would change them from groups and also gave them a failing grade. Although I thought about quitting, I ended up staying in the program because I realized that there were some kids that needed that guidance and actually enjoyed the program. I wanted the freshmen to take away something from the program as well, therefore I would always advise them to take

There are several qualities which are essential for a Special Constable at McMaster University. These qualities are integrity, quality, inclusiveness, teamwork, critical thinking, personal growth and a passion for life long learning. In terms of integrity and quality, I have demonstrated these with my steady employment at the Royal Ontario Museum over the last 10 years and my discipline free employment history. In high school, I had an instructor that stood out as a professional hero. I took her for some health science classes. I believe that this instructor properly displayed sensitivity, ethical commitment, and ethical courage. She also was the advisor for our school’s local chapter of H.O.S.A, which stands for Health Occupation Students of America. The purpose of the HOSA organization is to develop leadership and technical HOSA skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness and recognition, which is an integral part of the Health Science Education instructional program.…

Joining the New Visions program was one of the wisest decisions I have made. When nurses that I shadow at Unity Hospital express how jealous they are that they didn’t have a program like this when they were in high school, it reminds me to take advantage of this opportunity that not every student receives. I am confident that when I graduate college, I will be able to recollect this program, and how it led me to be successful. I will reminisce about the long hours dedicated to each college-level assignment in determination to receive a grade in the high 90’s, or that moment when I witnessed a five pound baby be born from a cesarean delivery, or even when I stood next to the operating table observing a total knee replacement surgery, while the surgeon and nurses took the time to teach me about what they were doing--an opportunity that not even college nursing students were able to see. Every assignment I completed, conversation I had, and person I met, has transformed me into a more educated and open minded student.…

One of the greatest rewards Link crew has provided me with is the gift of knowing I made a change in the lives of our freshman, no matter how small. I want to be able to have a positive impact on people’s lives and help people t the best of my ability. Without link crew I never would have met so many amazing people who have made an impact on my life. One of the best memories I will take with me from high school was our Link Leader Retreat, where we spent a weekend with one of the other high schools in our area, we did not know who these people were and they had no idea who we were, but we were able to find a common bond between us all and that was the inevitability of walking away with a new perspective on life, that lif is what you make of it, you can sit back and watch life pass you by or you can get up and do something about…

I am currently a senior in the Helms School of Government at Liberty University. I found out about your Global Internship Program through Dr. Cox who teaches my Corrections class. After doing research on your website I was very impressed. Being able to practice the skills that I have learned over the years such as government relations and disaster response, while implementing my Christian worldview in serving others would be an amazing experience. I would be a great addition to your team because of my past experience with serving on mission’s trips, living in a foreign country for a year and a half, and being on Liberty University’s student leadership team.…

Four years ago I was introduced and convinced to join a program called MCJROTC by my brother. MCJROTC (Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) is a program that is meant to teach and instill discipline, responsibility, and leadership traits in a student. I successfully joined this discourse community by showing the knowledge that I have obtained from the program, dealing with the emotions of my cadets (proper term for a student in the program), and achieving my credibility by ranking up and becoming a leader. I mastered ethos, pathos, and logos skills by overcoming mental and emotional breakdowns with my team members, working hard to become the best cadets within the program, and showing my instructors that I was professional enough…

How I plan to teach Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students, is to use what I have learned in EDU 305 as a guideline to apply what has been taught in class and use it for my students in the future. Ideally, I would like to teach at high school level in South Korea. I also find that helping CLD students who are learning English as their second language also fits for what I plan for the future. With high schoolers, some of the students that just came to America would not understand English well. When students starts to learn English around the ages of 15-18 years old, it can be frustrating and difficult for them.…
