In that moment, I decided to ask my mother for piano lessons at our local music store. Elated by my mother’s approval, I signed up with a teacher named Floyd. That Saturday afternoon my mother and I sat in a quaint room that held a mahogany vertical piano that beamed brighter than the sun. Initially, I played a simple song: hot cross buns.
