Therefore she is a very open minded person. The second aspect is her ability to speak Spanish. She said this has really help her move through the world and has even help her against racism. I also asked what were elements of her identity that made her proud. Some of this elements were her race and culture, she has always been proud of being Hispanic but she was discriminated at her school because she was one of the only ten students that were Hispanic. However, in her community the story was different people thought she was becoming more American and was leaving her Latino culture behind. Yet, she did not care she didn't fit in either community she considered herself a proud Latina. Another element she is proud of is her religion. She is Catholic and believes her religion has really affected the way she sees the world and the person she is now. However, there is some elements about her identity she says she is not very proud of. This is because I was born in El Salvador and she was only raised in a house hold influenced by Salvadorian parents. Therefore, our answer to this question are very different. I'm not proud of having an accent, while she is not proud of not having one. She is very religious yet I'm an atheist. She is not proud of her class and where she comes from, while I'm extremely proud to say that I come from a very poor family yet we have manage to succeed. While she tries to conform with her Hispanic community I try to conform with the American community. I'm not proud of this yet this is the way I have been force to live because I'm seen as a foreign I'm under the pressure to leave my culture and adapt the western culture.
