She communicates her thoughts well and demonstrations a strong case for her ideas; even though she is not exclusively for high school graduates surpassing college. There are strengths in her argument that readers with an open mind would undoubtedly see. Lee is not didactic in her writing although her title somewhat suggests that it is a heavy-handed essay. She plainly sees the benefits of college as well the benefits of going straight into the work force. Lee is encouraging others to avoid being judgmental when assessing what is best for someone else. The way that Lee approaches the topic of whether high school graduates should go straight to college, wait, or even never go at all is inspiring. Lee counters her opposition skillfully by addressing the majority of arguments against her essay.However, she overlooks some of the other advantages to having at least some higher education. Further learning in a formal class room can create a better understanding of culture; help students discover new areas of interest, and fine tune skills that are already possessed. Some of those things can be found in a work place, but there are advantages to taking a class or two and giving college a chance. She was convincing when using successful examples such as Bill Gates, but to some extent that is unrealistic because how often does someone like Bill Gates come around?When Lee used her sons experience she supported her argument in a more realistic way, showing that it is possible to get a good job, and live a normal life without a college degree. Overall Lee handled her topic well. Although she may not convince her entire audience that college is optional, she perhaps convinced most of them to consider looking at college, or the lack thereof with an open mind and an understanding there this more than one right
