This grants birthright citizenship to anyone born in the United States. Many people disagree with this because they say it only makes undocumented people come here to have babies. This mainly regards to the Hispanic community. Chavez disagrees with those people. She believes that taking this right away from children will only damage the results of many future electors. She brings up how the Chinese were also targeted in 1898. They too had many conflicts with citizenship. Although with the Exclusion Act of 1882, this only prevented Chinese workers to become U.S citizens. This didn’t mean that their children didn’t have the right to citizenship. As the Fourteenth Amendment states granting birthright citizenship to all children born: taking it away would be wrong. But wouldn’t changing the Fourteenth Amendment only cause more immigration in the country? This is something not often thought of by our government. I agree with Chavez and believe that there shouldn’t be any changes made. Being Hispanic it makes it easier for me to understand why Hispanics come to the United States. They only come here to better the lives of their families as well as their own. Many of them honestly don’t plan on having any children here. Some don’t even plan on staying here for as long as they do either. Taking this right away from their children will only harm the children in the future. They are in no way at fault for being born in a country where their parents are foreigners. They deserve to be treated just like any other race born here. I believe this would not only affect the electors, but also change the number on careers. There are many children who thanks to this amendment have been able to pursue careers that need to be filled. There are many doctors,nurses,teachers, and many more. They contribute to this country just as much as any other citizen. Taking this right away would bring up the numbers of immigration and cause more problems such as less taxes getting paid, more drivers without license, or more illegal workers.
