The book Chasing Lincoln’s Killer by James L. Swanson is a nonfiction book that explores the adventurous manhunt for Abraham Lincoln’s assassin. The book goes further into the story behind Lincoln’s death than most people know because all this comes from original sources. In my opinion, the book was a very interesting and fun to follow read, and I gained a greater insight of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Overall, I had no complaints about the book, and I would definitely read more from the author, James L. Swanson.…

Thomas J. DiLorenzo is the author of the book, The Real Lincoln. A great book in my opinion. DiLorenzo wrote this book to tell about Lincoln’s experience and what he did while he was the sixteenth president of the United States of America. The reason that makes me believe why DiLorenzo wrote this book is that it says in the first paragraph of the introduction, “According to one source, more than 16,000 books have been written on virtually every aspect of Lincoln’s private life and public life. But much of what has been written about Lincoln is myth “(1).…

James M. McPherson’s book, “Abraham Lincoln and the Second American Revolution,” explores this simple, yet difficult question on whether or not the Civil War was indeed a second American Revolution. McPherson is able to defend his opinion through his own documented lectures and published papers that the Civil War was indeed a second revolution by exploring various definitions of the word “revolution” and investigating data related to African-Americans in an antebellum and postwar America. The author additionally outlines President Lincoln’s opinion of the war, while adding some remarkable facts about Lincoln himself, the importance of the familiar stories and comparisons Lincoln used to communicate to the public, and the differences in Lincoln’s…

Lincoln had to decide how to handle this act that the south done. Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteer troops to fight the Southern rebellion, causing Virginia, Arkansas and Tennessee then seceded, refusing to fight their fellow Southerners and claiming Lincoln had overreached his authority because Congress was not in session and therefore could not authorize a war. Lincoln didn’t know much about fighting a war and the affairs but he went and self-taught himself by reading military war book at the library of congress but didn’t learn everything from the books he learned from some of the generals and learning that destroying the enemy was more important than capturing the confederates capital. I believe the election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 and the differences the northern and southern states had about the abolishment of slavery played a major role in why the Civil War was fought. Abraham Lincoln believed that southern states did not reserve the right to avoid the abolishment of slavery. Abraham was an anti-slavery republican who believed slavery was bad for business, and he did not want to see slavery spread to other parts of the United States. He was a strong advocate for citizens working for money instead of working for free. The idea of people being enslaved for work was not only cruel, but it also was not beneficial to America’s financial state.…

Lincoln was extremely timid and self-conscious when it came to emancipation. He was worried about how his decisions on the topic would be perceived rather than what would actually come of them. He also spent a lot of his time trying to soothe political egos rather than coming up with policies. Lincoln worked slowly and cautiously which was in some ways a detriment to his war efforts.…
