The Lincoln Electric Company is considered the largest manufacturer of welding machines and electrodes. Many college management texts refer to the Lincoln plan as a model for achieving worker productivity because it has been well known for many years and has been a successful company according to the usual measures of success. In 1895, John C. Lincoln began to manufacture his improved motor and opened his new business unincorporated with a $200 he had earned redesigning a motor for Herbert Henry Dow. After only one year of business, it experienced an economic depression and the business was cursed by a major fire. Even though it hardly prospered through its first quarter century, in 1906 John C. He sees the customer’s interest as the “raison d’etre” and the goal of the company, he mainly stated “to build a better and better product at a lower and lower price”, we can therefore see that to Lincoln the customer’s interests should be at the heart achievement of the company. Stockholders who own stock have last priority at Lincoln because they think it will be more profitable than investing money in any other way. The sense of respect of each individual holder also gets their share even if undeserved out of the great profit that the efficiency produces. James Lincoln has been criticizing the labor movement for “selfishly attempting to better its position at the expense of the people it must serve”. His idea of the correct relationship between workers and managers is shown by his comment “Labor and management are properly not warring camps; they are part of one organization in which they must and should cooperate fully and happily”. The basic wage level at Lincoln is determined by a wage survey of similar jobs in the Cleveland area. The rates are adjusted with changes in the Cleveland area, but the base wage rates are translated into piece rates.

Since 1934 the Lincoln bonus plan has raised bonus every year and ten years later the employees enjoyed a pension plan, a policy promotion. The best served at the Lincoln Company is the employees, least of their benefits is the year-end bonuses, which effectively double this further illustrate the desirability of a Lincoln job.

With the above analysis, one can see the Lincoln company as a subculture company and easily believe its success is a result of the excellent attitude of Lincoln employees and their desire to work harder, faster to raise benefits, and more intelligent than other industrial workers making them the best on the industrial market and making competition hard for other
