To most, the Lincoln penny is just a burden weighing down our pockets. Most people don't even give it a second thought, just one more thing to keep track of. But what people don't know is that the Lincoln penny has gone through numerous changes regarding the design honor and composition.
In the early 1900s, the penny had the initials of its original designer, Victor D. Bronner (V.D.B.) Many people complained about the initials. They said it was distracting to the overall design of the penny. In 1909, the US Mint removed the the initials from the penny to try to please the people. However, in 1918, the Mint added the initials back to the Lincoln penny, only much smaller, so as not to cause any disturbance. The only thing
