The movie, Lincoln, produced by Steven Spielberg, portrays the United States in another devastating year in the war against the North and the South where Abraham Lincoln brought together his best men, and his thoughts, to put the country through one of the best turning points in U.S. history. Abraham Lincoln and the House of Representatives succeeded in approving the Thirteenth Amendment. With the Thirteenth Amendment passing, it helped create a spark, which in turn lead to General Lee surrendering at Appomattox. After celebrating their notorious win, Lincoln got shot at Ford’s theater and died the next morning. One that was early on was that Abraham Lincoln called his wife Molly. This is proved to be true. Toward the end of the movie, the House of Representatives voted on the Thirteenth Amendment and it passed 119 to 56. This number is exact and reached the two-thirds majority vote to pass. Also when they went into the vote, the Democrats wanted to postpone the vote because they thought that secesh delegates were in Washington. A man ran to the White House and had Lincoln write a note saying that there were no delegates in Washington. This is, in fact, very true and, they even got the wording right. Thaddeus Stevens insulted a lot of Democrats throughout the film, and when asked what the Thirteenth Amendment meant to him, he twisted his views on it to fit others needs. This is very true and had a major effect on the vote. In the movie, whenever someone questioned Lincoln, he always replied with a story. Many historians have proved this to be true, and many stories that he tells in the movie are ones he said in real

On the grand scale though i thought the movie really was not historically accurate. I feel like it did not take them that long to decide on independance. Also some of the minor events i'm positive did not happen. But i'm sure they meant to do that so that the movie was more entertaining for the general public and not just the history buffs. But they made sure to incorporate enough real people and enough real events to i guess somewhat consider some of it accurate but not as a whole…

Thomas J. DiLorenzo is the author of the book, The Real Lincoln. A great book in my opinion. DiLorenzo wrote this book to tell about Lincoln’s experience and what he did while he was the sixteenth president of the United States of America. The reason that makes me believe why DiLorenzo wrote this book is that it says in the first paragraph of the introduction, “According to one source, more than 16,000 books have been written on virtually every aspect of Lincoln’s private life and public life. But much of what has been written about Lincoln is myth “(1).…
