Since he was so involved and determined, the writer of the movie showed that he was in a personal relationship with an African woman, who was also his housekeeper. Thomas J. DiLorenzo is the author of the book, The Real Lincoln. A great book in my opinion. DiLorenzo wrote this book to tell about Lincoln’s experience and what he did while he was the sixteenth president of the United States of America. The reason that makes me believe why DiLorenzo wrote this book is that it says in the first paragraph of the introduction, “According to one source, more than 16,000 books have been written on virtually every aspect of Lincoln’s private life and public life. But much of what has been written about Lincoln is myth “(1).…

DeLorenzo stated, “More words have probably been written about Abraham Lincoln than about any other American political figure (1). Likewise, according to Donald Davis, Pulitzer Prize winning Lincoln biographer, “much of what has been written about Lincoln is a myth” (1). In DeLorenzo’s book the myths of Abraham Lincoln will be evaluated and depicted until the true Lincoln is revealed. Lincoln is thought to be the one of the best presidents the United States; however, most history teachers do not teach about Lincoln’s real agenda and how the constitution stood in the way of his plan for the government to be centralized. According to DeLorenzo, “Lincoln will forever be known as the Great Emancipator” (2).…

Oates Paper When you think of Abraham Lincoln, you think of Honest Abe, the Great Emancipator, the common man’s president, etc. Stephen B. Oates in his book, Abraham Lincoln: The Man Behind the Myths, gives an insight into the real Lincoln, showing a different view of Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln is thought of as the common man’s president who grew up in a log cabin and taught himself to read, but that is not the full truth. Lincoln was actually embarrassed of his log cabin upbringing and of his parents.…

The only reason he could do this was because of the cryptic war powers clause. In this clause of the constitution the president of the United States is given special powers in times of war. Lincoln was right in thinking that “deliberate” would be better than “hurried” when advising the South about secession. Lincoln was right about thinking deliberate rather than hurried because if the South thought in a hurried manner they would make the wrong choices instead of the right ones. Moreover, it was better for the South to think in a slow manner and think about what they were going to get themselves into. Such as, going to war for the fugitive of slave laws, if the South were to hurry they would make the decision to go to war and risk losing their slaves rather than thinking about the bigger picture and leaving the situation alone so the South can keep their slaves.…

Slavery is a major part of U.S. History regardless of the negative reflection it puts on the United States. Slavery divided politicians, as well as states. Slavery was not the reason for the Civil War in the beginning, but it was always a main factor of the war, especially after the Emancipation Proclamation was introduced. In the article, “A Man but Not a Brother: Abraham Lincoln and Racial Equality”, by George M. Fredrickson, writes about Lincoln and his stance on slavery. Fredrickson records that Lincoln never really took a stance on slavery throughout his politician career, that he would have views for both against slavery and for slavery at times.…

In the chapter titled ‘John Brown and Abraham Lincoln: The Invisibility of Antiracism in American History Textbooks’, Loewen’s thesis is that American textbooks choose to omit information and concepts, such as antiracism, from their telling of history; even if by doing so, they are excluding ideas they might even agree with. In order to support his thesis, Loewen showcases times when textbooks have neglected to share vital information with its readers or when textbooks have used biased language without giving the reader the full picture. One such way that Loewen supports his thesis is by touching upon the case of American abolitionist John Brown, and his future treatment by American textbooks. Throughout the chapter, Loewen repeatedly points…
