Livi Glaser is currently a senior at Sullivan High School. She has been student of the month 3 times, received 8 “Doin’ It Right” awards and has been nominated for entry to Missouri Girls State all while in high school. I was a member of the K-5 cheering team from the time I was in kindergarten to the time I was in fourth grade. The peers I had when I attended are still a big part of my life. Even if we’re not the closest of friends, I still feel an unbreakable bond with those kids that I shared tears and laughter with for nine years straight. Graduating the eighth grade was tough for me, I didn’t know how I was supposed to leave behind the place where I had grown up for the majority of my life. My time at Barnegat High School has helped me to become who I am today and will most defiantly impact what I will do in the future. The teachers and my peers have all been an influence on my life and during the four years that I spent at the school, I have done some things for the school and the community as a way to thank them for giving me the opportunities that they have. It was they who pushed me to keep trying and striding to succeed and without them, I would not have accomplished what I have today. Rallies, protest, and riots have occurred in 25 cities since Donald Trump was elected president. Thousands of people have used their first amendment right to voice their opinions about the new president-elect. Signs saying ‘dump trump’, ‘build bridges, not walls’ and ‘not my president’ along with protesters have blocked streets and vandalized businesses across the nation. Over 200 people have been arrested, with a majority of the arrest occurring in Los Angeles. The gym is silent, if only for a moment. A brief pause in time, as the band waits and the students focus their attention on the empty door. And then, the doors burst open, and 120 girls in red and white stream out into a wave of thunderous applause. The students cheer and stomp their feet, the band plays the school theme song with as much vigor as they can muster, the parents and faculty look upon the group of giggling high school girls with pride. When being oppressed, it can be difficult to know when one’s values have been strained. This can cause a snowball effect of individuals being taken advantage of and not realizing it. If a government is in power and the people do not realize the harmful effects of an oppressing government, it causes the people to become hurt, physical, financial and mental. The 2016 Camouflage rally was a great way to start off the new school year. The rally was extra special because it was the first Rally of the year and that it was on the same day of the Battle of the Bone football game. At the rally, Mrs. Chiotti and ASB students could list many sports teams and recognize them for their hard work and dedication to their sports. The sports listed included, water polo, girls track, boy’s cross-country, the football team, and girl’s golf.
