Lin-Manuel Miranda Lin-Manuel Miranda was born January 16, 1980 in Manhattan, New York City, NY. Both of his parents, Luz Towns-Miranda and Luis A. Miranda Jr., are of Puerto Rican descent. Luz Miranda-Crespo is his only sibling. Growing up, his whole family liked theater, musicals, and hip-hop. This influenced him to major in theater studies at Wesleyan University. From there, he became an actor, composer, songwriter, and playwright. He has been married to Vanessa Nadal since 2010. They had their first son Sebastian in 2014 and are now expecting a second child. The creation of the musicals In the Heights, Hamilton, and writing the music for Moana is what Lin-Manuel Miranda is best known for; he has won many awards based on his work.
