After attending the 2016 conference in Bethlehem and reflecting and learning over the last six weeks with other students, several things struck me. First, restorative practices can have both broad and narrow applications. Whether working with one individual or working with an entire community, restorative practices has a fit. Furthering the idea of broad applications, another thing that struck me was the creativity of practitioners to integrate restorative practices into a wide variety of teachings. Monique Morris shared her work with underprivileged girls of color. Deirdre Kenny and Govert van Ginkel spoke of how to integrate restorative practices into the office environment, and Rafael Rodriguez and Patience Whitworth spoke of restorative practices in residence halls in higher education institutions. Presenters shared how to use comics, music, mass media or social media to teach restorative practices, or convert teaching methods into ones of teaching through a restorative lens (CITATIONS). Henry McClendon used the social discipline window to explain how the book of Genesis in the Bible was a restorative lesson. A long way from the small indigenous cultures, restorative practices is truly beginning to gain momentum across fields, countries, and continents. It is intuitive to want to help people be successful without taking on all of the responsibility. How can I use this? Well, I cannot very well say to students, “come, let us teach you to use the skills you already have.” Or can I?
I also recognized exactly how important the conference is to so many practitioners. Reading back over the posts, Beth Gutlzer said, “…it set a foundation for myself to have a place that a person can come to recharge their
