Limiting The Amount Of Soda Essay

My goal of limiting the amount of soda I consume daily to 1 is definitely a “SMART” goal. First it is specific. I want to limit the amount of soda I drink daily to 1. Next it is measurable by determining how much weight I have lost over the course of doing this task. My goal is attainable. I’m used to drink multiple cans of soda a day so it won’t be easy to cut it down put it’s certainly something I can do. This goal is very relevant as it will not only save me money financially but it will also help me lose weight, which is very beneficial for my health. There is a timeline as I would like to have this goal completed before this semester is over. To make sure I accomplish this goal I have put together a plan of only buying enough soda to last me for 12 days and won’t purchase anymore until the 12 days are up. I’ll have no choice but to ration the amount of soda I consume daily or run out. I started this task on September 1st. Since then I have lost 4 pounds. I haven’t been able to cut it down fully. Some days I have been able to make it with just one soda. There are days when one just isn’t enough. So I haven’t fully reached my goal yet but I’m very close. …show more content…
Soda helps increase your weight and can weaken your bones as research showed earlier. Cutting the amount of soda I consume down can very much have an effect on the physical dimensions of wellness. It also effects the social dimension of wellness. Cutting down the amount of soda consumed will help me lose weight. Losing weight can make me a more confident and happy person which can have a huge effect on my social life. There isn’t really a spiritual dimension of wellness connected to this project and there isn’t really a psychological connection either. This experiment relates to economic factors of wellness as well. Soda isn’t cheap and the less I consume the more money I can

In the book “The Naked Roommate” by Harlan Cohen there are five tips that I could take out and apply to my life about my own health. The first of the five tips is “Freshman 15, or um 45”, I can apply this to my life because it applies to my weight. Being able to control my eating at my house where there aren't multiple fast food restaurants and an all you can eat buffet at Larson's commons was a lot easier than college. It can be hard to control myself from the temptations, but when I notice myself gaining weight it makes it a lot easier to want to go exercise and eat healthy. The second tip that can apply to me is “The student body image”, because body image is something that is very important to me.…

I plan to change my behavior by resolving to eat significantly less sugar than I currently do. On Lab 1.2, my nutrition score was two out of ten (2/10). I eat few fruits and vegetables, I never consider how many saturated or trans fats I consume and I eat copious amounts of sugar on a daily basis. The only reason I achieved a score of two is because I rarely skip meals, preferring to eat continuously. Despite these bad habits, I am not overweight.…

This New York Times opinion agrees with the way Dave Granlund is trying to show his message, this article considers how the ban on soda would not have impact on the decisions of individuals. "customers can get around the ban by purchasing two drinks. " The author of the article wants to make understand that this regulation would be a bit absurd. "But too much nannying with a ban might well cause people to tune out." On the other hand in the cartoon we see that Dave Granlund project is humor, showing how the prohibition of soda, would not make any difference in the obesity crisis, people would buy a large soda instead of two, which would be equivalent to the largest .…

According to a this term life infographic, drinking soda can cause asthma from the sodium benzoate, heart disease from the high fructose levels, and kidney issues from phosphoric acid. It can also cause obesity, and “70% of cardiovascular disease is related to obesity. 30% of gallbladder disease is related to obesity.” It is clear that soda is leading to obesity, but strictly limiting soda will not end the obesity problem, because there are other drinks that are responsible. Passing the soda ban would be inconsequential, because a majority of the people that drink large amounts of soda are aware that it is unhealthy.…

According to the American Heart Association, drinking just one bottle of soda puts one over the recommended daily limit of sugar (Bittman). Unfortunately, many soda consumers will drink more than one soda per day, further putting their health at risk from the large intake of sugar. In a meta-analysis, soda consumption intake was associated with an increase in weight and a lower intake of milk, calcium and other key nutrients. This ultimately places one at risk for several medical problems such as diabetes (Vartanian). The high glycemic load from the sugar in soda increases the insulin resistance of cells, therefore increasing the risk for diabetes (Brownell).…

Once more, studies come to show that diet soda does not necessarily help people to lose weight but might actually do the opposite. Nevertheless, since these studies are only associations, this means that diet drinks might not cause any health risks, however, the consumption of artificial sugars could lead to health problems like diabetes type two and obesity. The New York Soda Ban Obesity has become a serious issue and danger for our society’s health. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases’ National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for 2009-2010, more than two in three adults are considered to be overweight or obese. But is this caused solely by the fact that we have become incontrollable consumers of everything or can there be a more complex reason? As the world develops, it is becoming faster, richer in choice of products, but at the same time poorer in terms of time.…
