Imagine you’re at home, it is 9 pm and you just got home from sports practice and band rehearsal. You’re exhausted and just want to go to bed. Now, you have 3-4 hours of homework due the next day. You have to stay up till 1 am doing homework. Then you have to get up at 6 am for the next day to do it all over again. Seems overwhelming right? This is how millions of students feel across America. Since too much homework can be overwhelming and kids have other after school activities, teachers should limit how much homework they give each night.

Teachers should limit how much homework they give each night because students have sports practice or other activities and need family time. According to David Skinner, some students say “They see homework as “Pointless” or “mindless” in order to keep their grades.” (Skinner). Students say homework doesn’t help them and they only do it to keep their grades up. Susan Schwartz also says: “We have to make sure homework is not given just for the sake of homework.” (Schwartz). Sometimes teachers just give homework to students that isn’t helpful or for punishment. They should only give homework as needed. In an Article called “The Homework Wars”, an excerpt says: “A new study finds that a heavy homework load negatively impacts the lives of high school students in upper middle class communities, resulting in excess stress,physical problems, and no time for leisure.” (Luke). Too much homework can burn out students because it takes up so much time that they can’t be normal people. This makes grades drop and other physical problems that are stress related.
