African Americans have come a very long way. We shouldn’t fail to acknowledge the progression of the race that has also made a gargantuan impact on the world; ranging from the right to vote to military status and involvement to even the presidency of the United States. Everyone knows the long history African Americans have endured and are still enduring. Despite the fact that slavery is a painful sadness in our history that is long behind us, its fruits of racism, inequality, partiality and discrimination still remain plaguing black Americans culture and lifestyle altogether. It is not debatable that African Americans don’t get paid equally despite their capabilities as the “white employee”. Eddie Davis, a professor at Buffalo State College stated “a disproportionate percentage of African Americans, and other racial minorities fall into the category ‘uncovered wage earners’ than do white Americans” The belief that wages are earned by the evaluation of each employee’s skills and capabilities becomes a misconception with the idea of earning your pay based from your relationship with your employer, becoming king. However, this becomes a huge disadvantage to African Americans as they are not always deemed favorites.
Another big problem faced by the African American community which is also one of the biggest problems in the country is security misinterpretation and prejudice, working hand in hand with racial relativism. The stereotypical idea of “hooded blacks” becoming a threat to the population has become a threat to the African American community itself. It is now a dangerous habit for black teens to wear hooded clothes for fear of concealing weapons.
