Riverdale High School offers an overall quality high school experience, but Riverdale’s athletics are regularly struggling. To be specific, Riverdale’s baseball program is struggling. Limited training space, offseason training, and coaching have created a tradition of losing and low numbers. However, these problems are fixable, and a change in the atmosphere could start a new tradition of success. Riverdale Baseball currently has one indoor batting cage, which is shared with the softball program. While the baseball field is in quality condition, the training facilities are limited. A new facility would definitely help players train, but starting a summer program that played in a summer league would allow players and coaches to practice in game-like scenarios. Offseason training is extremely important for baseball players because baseball season is two months shorter than both the fall and winter sport’s seasons. With more offseason training, baseball players could perfect their skills, and coaches would have more time to coach players. Summer league would also offer valuable time for team development. Varsity players could learn to play together, while younger players could develop as their bodies grow. Also, playing in a summer league would allow players and coaches to learn each other's strengths and weaknesses. The largest problem with Riverdale’s baseball program is its limited number of quality coaches. A baseball team should have no less than three coaches, and they should all be experienced at different positions. The coaches need to be devoted to developing the young players and perfecting the varsity players. A limited number of coaches has led to many players not being developed, which leads to players quitting. Riverdale Baseball needs more experienced coaches that can help develop and adjust players’
