Limitations within the Various Studies
There are limitations within each study, especially when a topic has not been examined to the extent that other have. Much of the research that has been published is exploratory until further studies have been conducted. Exploratory research is important because it allows the researches to learn as much as they can about a particular topic to allow them to make hypotheses and allows them to set up their studies in a manner logical for the topic at hand.
In the study conducted by Gauthier et. al (2004) the subjects were not asked to distinguish non-violent and violent video games, only the quantity of time they were exposed to this type of media. This study was also conducted as an exploratory study since

In addition, while some of these studies attempt to prove causation, it is impossible with a correlational design method. Regardless of a positive or negative correlation, it cannot be used to prove causation. In several of the studies there is a small sample size, or even a sample size that is not indicative of the entire population. Additionally there is no knowledge of whether or not the studies used a double blind technique. If a double blind technique is used there is no researcher bias. Without this technique the researcher could interpret aggressiveness in different ways if they are aware of the group of a particular subject. In a double blind study, the researcher is unaware of the group of a particular subject and therefore eliminates the possible researcher bias. It would also be important to define aggression as it is meant to the researcher determining aggressive tendencies from participants in a particular study. With the limited studies available it is difficult to conclude a positive if any correlation between violent video games and aggression. This particular subject would benefit from additional studies both observationally and

As technology has advanced and become a more prominent part of people’s lives, the influence of the media on individual’s interactions has also increased. From magazines, advertisements, and the news to TV shows, movies, and video games, the media provides a lens in which to view the world. In the last century, video games have, in particular, risen in popularity as a form of entertainment and as a hobby. While this pastime seems harmless, studies have shown that extended usage of these forms of media can affect perceptions of reality and the individuals that inhabit it. Although the main focus on video games typically involves the impact of violence, there has been an increase in research on the affect that these games have on the perception…

It claims that aggression is not an outcome of a learned behavior but a biological response to the environment around them (Ellis & Walsh, 1997). It also argues that aggression and anger that is stored up in an individual can be released by displacing the aggressive energy into other activities. According to this theory, violent video games would actually decrease people’s aggressiveness since an individual with a built up aggressive energy can release that negative energy though playing video games instead of becoming violent towards other people. Ultimately it concludes that playing video games can decrease a person’s…

I strongly believe that this article is valid because Sally Smith has a degree in communications from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. She wrote this article for a city newspaper which obligates the writer to do research on the topic. Although the article may be considered older, it still is relevant today because video games have gotten better graphics and have increased in violence each year. Patrick Markey stated that “in a sample of 118 teenagers. Each participant played a violent or a non-violent video game and had his or her hostility levels assessed.…

The inferences drawn from this study are limited by its descriptive study design. In this kind of research, the researchers produce great amount of data, but lack of time for analysis and reflection may affect the results (Holloway & Wheeler, 2013, p. 15). Sometime not providing the nature of study to candidate or hiding information due to the fear of rejection by the candidate may affect the actual quality of research. Another problem may be due to potential complex nature of the research topic or broad based scope statement (p. 16). 2.…

Video Games and Violence “Violent Video Games: Rehearsing Aggression”, is an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education written by Elizabeth Carll explaining that violent video games play an important factor on violence. The article is a response to Christopher Fergusen, an advocate for violent video games, who previously made the article “Video Games: the Latest Scapegoat for Violence”. She focuses on the body of research available to show that violent video games cause violent behavior and goes on to say that limiting access will only allow the parents to control what media their kids have. However, Carll acknowledges that not everyone that plays these games will become violent. She writes, “Obviously, not all people who play video games…

Ultimate Violence Simulator In no other period of time has there been such exposure to violence as there is today. The world has, long before been consumed by such hatred and acrimony however, it was never praised to children and young ones for the sheer fun of it, but rather to protect something they loved and cared for. Over the decades, human society has begun to expose more violent media to the young masses with acts of entertainment such as movies and TV shows, but within the last few decades the rise of an interactive violence media known as video games has ascended to the public.…

Video Games Do Not Cause Violent Behavior Over the years there have been several incidents that have stirred up the emotions of people, parents and especially investigators. These incidents include the Sandy Hook Elementary Shooting, the Columbine Massacre, and the incident in Colorado where a man went on a shooting spree in an Aurora movie theater. There was one key thing that aroused people’s emotions connected by investigators to all three incidents: video games. This led to the belief that if the parents’ children play violent video games that the child will become violent. Even though people have been led to believe that video games cause people to become cruel and commit violent actions, video games do not cause people to commit acts of violence because they don 't have time to…

As an example, if you want to know whether removing specific brain tissue results in behavioural changes, you cannot perform the study on humans. You have to perform it on animals and try to transpose the result to humans. Furthermore Bartol and Bartol (2014) suggest limitations concerning overall lax standards and as a result, the field of psychology is constantly changing definition. Adding that studies are regularly published that would never meet the criteria of more stringent science research. Facilitated communication also is an area which many theorists question the validity of psychological research, as practitioners have been accused of unintentionally cueing the facilitated person, so the results of tests…

717). A weakness that can result from quantitative research in a lab is the fact that the artificial nature of the environment may not be able to recreate the same results as the situation in the real world (Clark-Carter, 2010, p. 5). Another argument about the weakness of quantitative research is the lack of researcher and participant relationship. Some have suggested that while this helps the research remain objective and unbiased as possible, it treats the participants as objects, numbers and as a source of data (Carr, 1994, pp. 717-718).…

For ongoing years the complaint of many citizens that violent video games have a bad reputation for starting mass shootings, violence or any physical or mental harm to the youth the ages of 18 or younger. The youth that plays these violent video games labeled M rated or higher adults believe the games are rewarding the players with their aggressive behavior and violence towards others. Video Games are supposedly teaching children that violence is acceptable in real life situations. I on the other hand disagree that violent video games should not be banned because they do not cause harm and violence towards others, just a simple, fun and entertaining game for those who have time to waste away. Here are three different reasons for my claim: Video…
