A good example of a job where you are basically your own boss and in control is working for Airbnb. Airbnb is a company where anyone can rent out spare rooms to people for a day, a week, or for however long they would like for three times the cost of renting them out the usual way. Workers are able to rent them out to anyone, whether it is someone coming from out of the country or someone who is just looking for a place to spend the night or weekend. According to an article mentioned in Doug Henwood article “What the Sharing Economy Takes” they wrote “Collaborative consumption gives people the benefits of ownership with reduced personal burden and cost and also lower environmental impact..”(Henwood). Their point is that these self employed individuals no longer have to deal with all the laws and regulations that usually are tied with working for a company. However, not many people are fond of the idea of giving freelancers the opportunity to work jobs without having so many limitations put on them. Robert Reich argues that the sharing economy will eliminate labor protections such as minimum wage, worker safety, family and medical leave, and overtime (Reich). Though I concede that these companies go against the many regulations needed to keep a worker safe and protected, I still insist that these individuals have a right to do with what they would like with these jobs because none of them require their employers to follow any ( talk about whether regualtions is a good thing for on demand
