For my public ministry to be a fruitful one, I must invest in the home. Yet if my priorities are out of order, I’ve failed the test before even sharpening my pencil! The only way I can ensure that my children are being trained in the fear of the Lord and understand the importance of knowing and trusting Him is if I am present. I need to be available to my family physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. While the calling of a pastor is a noble one, there is a higher calling, and that is of a father. To see to it that my public ministry is one that is pleasing in God’s sight, I have a fiduciary responsibility to care for my home in a way that is pleasing to …show more content…
Children are called to obey their parents. As a father, I am called not to provoke my children to anger. If they are out of line with their God-given mandate to be obedient, then I must do what is necessary to correct their behavior. How can I be expected to enact church discipline rightly if I fail to disciple my own children? As an extension of grace, God has granted a means of correction for errant behavior that is motivated by love. If I am to be a man of integrity and a minister of the gospel, I must seek to discipline my children, and by doing so make much of Jesus

In my opinion, Lily Owens is a very strong and courageous character in this story. She comes up with a plan to leave an uncomfortable situation that she’s dealt with her whole life that has to do with her abusive father; she helps the people she cares about; she does what she has to do to find the truth about her life and make it better. For those reasons, I admire Lily Owens. All her life, Lily has had to deal with the fact that she killed her mother when she was younger. Lily has also had to deal with her abusive father, T. Ray, who was a constant reminder of her mother’s absence.…

Just as a child cannot know goodness without a model of virtue, a child cannot know offense without an image of villainy. As enlightened animals, humans set out to reject natural tendencies and live without sin. In Steinbeck’s magnum opus, Cathy is a humanoid symbol for predestined immorality and devilish values. She is the embodiment of divine rejection and a representation of the seven cardinal sins: pride, greed, gluttony, sloth, envy, lust, and wrath (Catholic Church 1866). By committing the most mortal sins, Cathy is fated to represent all that we should not be and the worst of God’s fallen humanity.…

Frederick Douglass, the famed 19th century abolitionist leader, once stated “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men” (Douglass). As parenting style continues to bend around societal factors that are relatively unpredictable. The one value that has stood the test of time, is an unconditional love for the youth. Although I’ve yet to have kids of my own, I have experienced firsthand the triumphs, and struggles that my parents endured to raise me. Throughout Lareau’s work in Concerted Cultivation and the Accomplishment of Natural Growth, she touches on two parenting styles that are drastically different from one another.…

As pastors we are to insert ourselves into the lives of people for offering guidance, love, accountability, encouragement, prayer, and helping them grow in Christlikeness. Likewise, Maddix speaks of pastoral care in a similar way saying that “Careful pastors also know that just showing up is not all that is needed when we intersect the daily lives of people” (Willimon 70). He says that parishioners want to pray and often need help to pray. Also one my favorite things he says is, “Prayer is our first work and it is a great gift to offer prayer as a pastor alongside the people whom you love and serve” (…

In this world there is a diversity in the human behaviour. Some people show good manners and character, whilst others do not. However, what is often forgotten and to some extend taken for granted, is that a great person does not immerge out of now where. It is through care and nurture from the parents that conditions the child’s willingness to show kindness and respond positively to discipline. Yet the arts of parenthood cannot be taught or understood by everyone, and results to an imbalance in the parenting, where it is either too loose or too uptight.…
