The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act overturns a 2007 Supreme Court verdict that imposed a time limit on lawsuits female employees could file over discrimination in salary and benefits. Effective immediately, managers in all departments need to first consult with HR before offering any additional (over and above the company compensation structure) salary and benefits to employees. This precaution will avoid any possible lawsuits related to compensation matters under the new act. We will also review the compensation structure of our female employees at all levels.     Mrs. Ledbetter was not compensated for the injustice, but it brought the case front and center that even after the tragic outcome something good came out of it. On January 29, 2009, President Barack Obama signed The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which stated the 180 days statute of limitations would reset every time an individual received a discriminatory paycheck.
