Lillie: What Could Happen In Large Churches

Decent Essays
Lillie,
I can completely understand how that could happen in large churches. In the church I grew up in I was very involved and most of the pastors knew me while I was growing up. The church that I go to now is actually alot larger than the one that I grew up in. There are about 4,000 that attend the church that I go to now. Although I really love my church and have found ways to get involved, I still don't know alot of the pastors outside of the areas where I serve and I am not used to that.

When I was younger, I felt like an outsider at church. For one, majority of the people grew up together and were family. I only lived ten minutes away, but we lived totally different lives. Even though my church family or kinship created a new environment to build relationships, I still felt as an outsider.…

James, I was a lot younger than I am now. In my immaturity, I didn’t find as much interest in church. While this was in part from ADHD, I also found myself tending to fall asleep from listening to pastors drone on and on in a monotone voice. Now, I am able to pay more attention and enjoy services because I am older and can appreciate more things. However, there is still a clear difference in these services.…

No Hip In The Wild Tren Linsley Violence and chaos, is used, in conjunction with symbolic aspects, and binary opposition as literary tools, in “No Church In the Wild” to show fundamental problems with gender inequality in society, pointing out the irony that men are the ones with all the power, yet are ones who use it for violence. “No Church In The Wild” in this sense is a very overzealous example of “hipster” counterculture. The video opens with a relatively still shot of a man holding a molotov cocktail on what appears to be a regular city street He then clicks a lighter and ignites it, as soon as he does. The beat starts and the song begins.…

“The Bible, Africa, and the Church in the Postmodern Era” Another key point, as leaders, pastors, etc. there must be an understanding of the word “postmodern” in order to see the impact it has in African American churches today. If understanding correctly, postmodern thinking implies pleasing people rather than God is okay. In other words, forbidden things are acceptable now; having no biblical insight, denial of absolute and objective truth is the current fade, also to some God really don’t exist. However, it is important to remember Scriptures will clarify all the deceptive, misleading of the postmodern era.…

During these angst-filled years, Annie decided to quit the church. This action may not have upset her parents so much, after all they did not attend church themselves, if she had not sent an angry letter explaining her quitting to the minister of the Church. Annie’s parents were upset because the letter would cause scandal, gossip and perhaps tarnish their family’s reputation. Annie met with the assistant minister, Dr. Blackwood, of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church to discuss her decision, but his words did not move her. He had loaned her some books and tapes about the theological "problem of pain” for a paper she was writing.…

Depending on the Protestant denomination (some are more favouring of a Christian design), most Protestant churches are plain and simple - Protestants generally don’t use the same statues or pictures or architectural designs as a kind of worship that Catholics use. The removal of these arty displays of worship was suggested around the time of the Protestant Reformation - and the removal was called Iconoclasm. Protestants saw any deviation from the Bible a bad thing or a distraction. There was actually a lot of religious hatred and violence from the Protestants toward the Roman Catholics - who liked to worship through statues and paintings. However, Lutherans and Anglicans were both not as keen on Iconoclasm and their churches allowed anything…

Religion plays an important part in the African American community. In my case it was something that was a strong part of my life and we spent a lot of time in church. We were told that a strong spiritual relationship would make me a better person. But as time went on this to me seemed a myth to me, because I saw people were not improving as people. These individuals were sick on a moral level and were lost spiritually.…

Many Christians are leaving the church because of what they come across inside the church; they do not understand why they are going to church. Paul says we are predestined (Ephesians 1: 5 NKJV), God chooses us to salvation (2 Thess. 2:13 NKJV), He does not choose us to be lost, and He never condemns men who deserve to be saved (Rom. 9: 22 – 25). God determined ahead of time that all who would be saved would also be adopted into His family as sons, He could have saved us without making us His sons but He chose to do both. As sons of God, we belong to a family, so we are members of the body of Christ, for a church body to function properly; all of its “body parts” need to be present and working.…

During my childhood and lower teens, I was very involved in church. I would go to every event or meeting put on by our church. Watching certain senior youth members, I didn’t understand why they would just come to the fun events. I would only see them during our mission trips or camps, but never at business or regular meetings. Then I promised myself that I would always stay as active as I could.…

Assessing and assessment reports within the church are a crucial and essential part of creating organization and order within the church administration and staff. You have got to know where you are before you can make a plan toward where you sense God is leading. Without assessments and reporting in the church; acquiring higher quality servant leaders would be difficult to attain. In this active culture of today it’s necessary to have just as much of an active church administration. Robert Welch, dean of the School of Education Ministries and professor of administration at Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary, explains in Church Administration: Creating Efficiency for Effective Ministry, that within church administration “there should be…
