Lilith’s POV

I woke up to the stinging sensation on my cheek, I open my eyes and see my roommate standing over me. That bitch slapped me. “The fuck?! Why did you slap me Bree?” i said sitting up from my cozy bed. “Because your a emo freak and i don't want you in here when Julie and Jessy come here.” (Sorry if your name is Julie, Jessy, or Bree. i'm not implying anyone with that name is a total bitch) I rolled her eyes and got out of bed and grabbed my clothes for a shower and went to the bathroom. (TRIGGERING) I got undressed and got in the nice, warm shower. i washed myself and grabbed my razor and made 6 cuts on each arm and 5 cuts on both thighs. i washed off all the blood and got out of the shower. (TRIGGERING PART DONE) i got dressed

I looked at alex and

Two quotes are mentioned twice in the reading, Aristotle “The female is female by virtue of a certain lack of qualities. We should regard women’s nature as suffering from natural defectiveness.” (Beauvoir, 5) and St. Thomas, “incomplete man” (Beauvoir, 5) this comment refers to the story in Genesis of Eve being taken from the rib of Adam. Other quote summaries an assessment of women is by Monsieur Benda in the Uriel’s Report, “A man’s body has meaning by itself, disregarding the body of the woman, whereas the woman’s body seems devoid of meaning without reference to the male.”…

The final book in Butler’s Lilith’s Brood series is Imago, a word which initially brought to my mind imago dei. However, a more interesting connection might be in the biological definition of “imago”. In this framework, “imago” refers to “an insect in its final, adult, sexually mature, and typically winged state” ; the imago stage is the final one before metamorphosis is complete. I wonder if Butler had this idea in mind when naming the last book in her trilogy; she certainly engages many scientific and biological ideas throughout (her ecology, her use of cancer, etc.). Imago is the conclusion to the trilogy; it is the last glimpse readers have into what the future of humanity will be.…

The climax served it’s purpose and provided fast paced action within the rebellion, which is what I wanted. The night women got the chance to enact their revenge, which was nice. I got what I wanted and what I expected from the climax. The only thing that displeased me was Lilith protecting Jack Wilkins, but I am glad she did because it eventually provided her a chance to live after the rebellion failed. The conclusion was sad, predictable but fair.…

It is ever so apparent throughout the short story Eve’s Diary in-which men and women are different from each other mentally, physically, and emotionally. Before I divulge further; it is important to make note that “Eve’s Diary” was published early in the 19 century, more specifically; 1906 a time where men were considered far more superior than their female counterparts. Mark Twain (Author of Eves Diary) portrays this previous issue by displaying Adam and Eve with stereotypical deportment throughout the text. Women were considered inferior to men; Mark Twain depicts women equal and in some parts superior to men to represent relationships. Adam and Eve share a quite unique relationship, in terms of their emotions and what they think about each other.…

The gender roles have been distinguished throughout our history as male and female, hero and damsel in distress. The females have always been the lower part of the gender equality or the one always needing saving, well this was true until the twenty-first century where women took a huge leap as how they are portrayed this has followed suit in many areas of the media today such as print, film and the internet. In today’s age or generation, we now see that it is the female characters or actors that take charge or save the day unlike how it use to be, where the females are the damsel in distress. There were many companies who tried to push the old way out and boy did Disney help with that a lot.…

Genesis chapter three uses the allegorical story of Adam and Eve’s original sin to describe the process of humans maturing into adulthood. Like children, Adam and Eve begin the chapter under the ruling of a parental role (God); Eve’s act of taking the fruit becomes a metaphor for the desire for freedom children develop as they grow. The serpent first introduces Eve to the idea of rebellion by questioning God’s rule, “Hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree in the garden?” (3:1) Eve makes it clear she is aware of God’s rule and recites it in an almost childlike manner, “God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die” (3:3). Despite understanding God’s ruling, Eve develops a childlike curiosity with what is forbidden to her, which is shown through her fascination of the tree in her thoughts: “good for food” and “pleasant to the eyes” (3:6).…

    Eve's Misogyny

Milton’s Paradise Lost presents Eve as a very human-like character. Sure, she ate the apple that brought sin into the world, but as humans we make mistakes every single day. This parallel between godly Eve and us regular humans indicates that we all are imperfect beings who make mistakes often and the outcomes of our mistakes are larger than we can imagine sometimes. Even with this imperfect nature found in Eve and the wrongful misogyny found in the garden of Eden, many readers see Eve as the heroine of Paradise Lost. These readers view Eve as a traditional literary heroine who is courageous for being selflessly compliant in wanting to take all the blame for eating the forbidden apple.…

A hero is someone who meets a need, has an impact on others or rescues someone whose life is in jeopardy. A hero is selfless and kind and good. In many works of fiction or fantasy there is a hero to save the day, there is someone that helps others achieve their goal or be in peace. But there is not always a need for a hero. Lilith:…
