As the prized #3 recruit in the country, Cliff Alexander seemed poised for a great season in college and a bright future ahead of him in the NBA. Alexander committed to Kansas , wanting to be apart of a college basketball blueblood. During his season he battled injuries and eventually went undrafted in the NBA Draft. Alexander was a kid from Chicago, who had dreamt his whole life that he would attend University of Illinois. Looking back at the decisions he made, he realized he should've attended his Dream School and now wonders how his NBA career would be different. At first Mama’s death did not create sorrowness for Tita but soon after she found out about Mama’s hidden secret. Mama had a diary with letters from a man named Jose Treviño. Jose was the love of Mama’s life but Mama’s love was rejected because he was black. Mama’s parents rejected Mama’s love even though Mama was pregnant with Jose’s child (Gertrudis). Mama and Jose planned to run away and care for this baby together but one night, a man killed Jose. After the terrible event Mama “resigned herself to life with her legal husband.” (Esquivel 138) Mama is feeling regret after the death of Jose because she did not follow her passion (love for Jose) and leave with him sooner. Mama’s regret is also being shown since she “resigned to her legal husband” to show that there was nothing Mama to do that could turn back the clock on her relationship with Jose and had no choice but to move on. Esquivel then writes “Tita wept for the person who lived a frustrated love.” (Esquivel 138) The “Frustrated Love” is used to show
