Likbot: A Short Story

Decent Essays
Likbot is a guy that I seen around the workplace all the time, a guy that would do all of his work on time always. Though the one thing that was weird was that he would never do is that he would never talk to anybody. I always thought it was because he had a shyness problem, like he didn’t think anyone would like him or want to talk and hang out. So I decided to try and talk to him when he was alone. It was a Friday afternoon and he was in the break room all alone and I knew this would be a good opportunity. I walked in all casual like and went to the refrigerator to get a drink and I sat down at the same table as him.

He didn’t really look like he cared if I sat down with him. Soon I asked him how his morning was and just nodded his head

OSU Football Coach Woody Hayes once said, "You can never pay back, so you should always try to pay forward. " When one receives a generous act, they are often prompted to reciprocate the kindness, or “Pay It Forward.” FIRST regularly grants FRC team 3324, The Metrobots, opportunities to experience STEAM, making it our desire to give others similar opportunities by “STEAMing it Forward.” Our Team When a small group of students founded The Metrobots in 2010, we faced a lack of proper tools, mentors, funding, community support, and practice space. I’ve usually learned in hard way because frankly, I love to challenge myself to expand my personal capacity. Although I had already talked to one of my classmates about having interview with her as a Caucasian woman, I decided to do it with my cousin’s friend, Jacob, who I met in my place for the first time during Thanksgiving holidays. Interviewing Jacob about his interactions with other cultures has made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the meaning of the privilege and holding it. Jacob was a 24-year-old Caucasian, who lived in Missouri his entire life. Though he was visiting California for the second time in his life, he was in a Persian house for the first time.…

When volunteering at West Minnehaha it made me realize things that I didn’t pay attention to before going in. The point was to build relationships, problem solve, what to do in a conflict situation, and step outside of my comfort zone. I learned how to do every single one of those things. I realized that the kids are in need of someone who they can look up to and a dependable person who they can count on. For example, I was looking after a few kids that were doing homework and when walking around I hear a conversation of two kids.…

I asked, and not twenty minutes later I had learned all about him; that he, too, lived in Ridgefield, that he worked as a businessman, and much more. After that, I shared with him, and we got to talking for quite a while. After that, I scribbled down my number for him to call, and he helped me get a cab home. On the ride to my house, I couldn't help but smile, thinking of James and…
