Toronto is a growing population with a mass transportation system that is getting extended passed its capacity. Transit authorities have come up with seven new light rail lines. The demand for public transportation has risen a lot from 2004 to 2007. Each year grew from 418 million to 445 million. What these light rail lines are proposed to do is increase the capacity. The building of the seven light rail lines that will be in the city will be around 120 km in length and cost $6.1 billion. The commission chose light rails instead of subways because of its cost efficiency. Light rails would meet the needs of the city and also be a tenth of the cost.
