Just because you are not reaching for 20 inch bicep or thunderously strong thighs like the muscle heads in the gym doesn't mean you should shun the weight room. As women get older or even while they are young; it is very important to maintain and build muscle strength. When women reach a certain age some start to care less about their body structure, but the body structure is not all that lifting weights will do for you. Lifting weights gives you an edge over body fat, stress, and health problems. Some women think cardio is the key to losing body fat, but it is not. For starters, cardio does have an affect on the body and does work over a period of time, but lifting weights is a much more simple way to loss those love handles that you just …show more content…
Lifting is also an advantage to your health and your health problems. As woman get older their bones become more fragile, and what different way than consuming vitamin C will slow down this process? Lifting has been proven to elevate the blood levels of osteocalcin, a marker of bone growth, by 19 percent. This benefits you in the long run for all the aches and pains that you will miss out on. Women that have also work out on a weekly basis are known to have lower blood pressures. So to the women out there taking their high blood pressure pills daily remember, simply working out could have prevented all the long and spendy trips to the doctors office for your monthly prescriptions. Having a lower blood pressure is a benefit to the human body because it can " reduce the risk of a stroke by 40 percent and the chance of a heart attack by 15 percent" (Clark). Furthermore, lifting can make you live longer. By building the muscle strength and strong bones links to lower risk of death, disease and cancer. "Do not fear heavy weights any longer. What you should fear is being old and weak. What you should fear is wasting more time training strategies that just won't get you where you want to go. Push your body - you are stronger than you think"
