Once I turned six, my parents sent me to Camp Wanakita for the first time, which was the origin of one of the most important parts of my life. Although the earliest few years, I needed some persuading to return to camp, I nonetheless believe that, if the opportunity presents itself, all children should go to Wanakita, because of the opportunities for unique friendships, the setting conducive of a connection to nature, and an environment that encourages the development of new skills. Perhaps the most important reason why all children should go to Wanakita is the formation of friendships at camp. The camp songs and traditions encourage a sense of camaraderie between campers which is vital to the creation of good friendships. Another reason why camp is a good place to make friends is…

    1. What experiences have you had in nutrition, public health, or related areas that have prepared you for entry into this graduate program? I participated in two undergraduate research projects that developed my passion for research. Both experiences helped me understand ways to develop a clinical question in nutrition, how to be organized, work in a team, and think of possible things that could go wrong before they have gone wrong. I especially enjoyed these research projects because they looked at innovation of products to create healthier options for consumer vanilla taste preference and preventing chronic disease with cranberries.…

In everyday life the Scientific Method can be utilized regularly. Most of the time, people don’t even realize that they are using the steps to the Scientific Method when figuring something simple out. People can move through the steps so quickly it is hard to recognize that many used them while making decisions about regular daily life situations. Kausik Datta wrote “that his wish for every Non-Scientist is to understand the use of the Scientific Method, and how it is the foundation for rational, empirical, evidence-based understanding of the natural world; the central idea elegantly guiding how science works to advance knowledge” (2012). Often the Scientific Method is used very quickly for solving problems and making split-second decisions on routes to take when driving or ingredients to use when cooking.…
