In this personal statement I will address my personal plans and aspirations for completing a graduate education. I believe an adequate college education is necessary in today society. There are numerous resources and opportunities that are available to those who choose to seek a college education. My lifelong career goal has been to become a family nurse practitioner. My family has many member of the healthcare field, both doctors and nurses. I had the privilege of growing up observing and learning about the field from a private practice perspective. From this I developed my interest in the healthcare field and I knew that I wanted to become a part of it. I am currently still working at location while continuing my education. Since working as a floor nurse I realized my true love and calling for the nursing profession. Once I got accustomed to working full time I began taking the required perquisites at Shelton State Community College to be able to further my education by obtaining my Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. I was accepted into The University of Alabama’s RN to BSN program and provided course incentives for completing the DCH Nurse Residency Program through their partnership. I am currently still enrolled and will graduate from the RN to BSN program this December. I am eager to continue my education toward my lifelong career goal. I have set my mind on the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Nursing for graduate studies in nursing for many reasons. One being its prestigious reputation and national rankings that the program holds. It would be an honor to received my MSN degree from and become alumni of this university.
