Lifeguarding Benefits

In this day and age, there is a plethora of part-time jobs for hardworking college students to avail themselves of. One popular part-time job is lifeguarding. During the summer of 2014 and 2015, I worked as a lifeguard at Burnham Park Pool in Morristown, New Jersey. My job as a lifeguard at Burnham Park was the best job I ever had for several reasons.

The first reason Lifeguarding at Burnham Park was the best job was the benefits. One benefit was the raises. Lifeguards got a seventy-five cent raise every summer. Another benefit was free food. Occasionally, the Burnham Park Snack Shack gave the lifeguards french fries or sodas. The last benefit was the paid breaks. In fact, lifeguards generally got half hour breaks every hour. I could work as much or as little as I wanted. For instance, some lifeguards worked no more than four hours in a week, while others such as myself worked thirty or forty. If for any reason I could not work a certain day I was assigned, then I could just call one of the other lifeguard and ask them to cover for me. Also if I could work a certain day that I was not scheduled for, and I wanted more hours, it was never hard to find someone willing to give up their shift. The net result was that I could both work whenever I wanted, and not work whenever I didn't.

The third and most important reason Lifeguarding at Burnham Park was the best job was the welcoming and supportive work environment. First of all, the patrons at the pool were well behaved and usually followed the rules. Also, my boss was always very kind and generous. In fact, he once bought donuts for all the lifeguards on duty. In addition, some of my fellow lifeguards became my closest friends. A few of us used to get together every Friday. I was never bothered by any of my coworkers. In fact, the camaraderie of the lifeguards was the main reason that I kept the job after so many

DBQ By: Zayn Khan During the Japanese Industrial Revolution in the mid-1900’s, there were many factors that came into play when thinking about the costs, and benefits of working in a silk factory. Young and old women would work at the factories to support their families, but at the same time, they were working for very long hours with very minimal breaks, and around risky areas that were prone to illness. Although the benefits can be argued to be worth it, the costs outweigh them because they (the benefits) have countless downsides, the main being, hours, wages, and labor contracts.…

I do not think that the English Textile factories were a good place for the health of the working class, because it was not a safe environment, there were a lot of little kids working machines, the workers of all ages worked for very long periods of time a day (5 am to like 10+pm), and also they got beaten at the factories. The English Textile factories were horrible with the health of their workers, kids of the age of 5 and older were working and they would hurt themselves or even others on accident because they were so young and did not have that much knowledge or experience of how to work the machines, But honestly, who expects a 5 year old to know how to work a machine like they had back then in the factories? Also back to the little kids, they got hungry and tired more easily than the adults did probably. Because they were so young, they usually got naps every now…
