Lifeguard Research Paper

Ever since I was a little kid, I always wanted to be a lifeguard. My dad was a lifeguard when he was a teenager and he said it was one of the best jobs of his life. He always talked about how fun it was to sit in the bright, warm sun all day and get paid to get a golden tan. In my 9th grade year my 15 year old self was asked by the pool manager of my neighborhood pool if I would like to work, and who could pass up this great opportunity. I signed up for the lifeguard class and I thought that it was going to be the hardest, most challenging thing in my life. On my way to the class, I felt butterflies in my stomach. I finally got to work! My first day of work was met with a heap of rowdy children to welcome me. It was a warm, bright, sunny day and that brought the masses to the cool, refreshing swimming pool. I thought I was going to be overwhelmed with the number of kids running around causing all sorts of childish problems and I just thought, “What did I get myself into”. Luckily I was working with someone who had been an experienced lifeguard, and he offered some generous tips, showing me how well the kids listen and that they calm down with a little help. Even though the kids might be a little stressful, they definitely bring some cheerful moments too. One of the best parts about lifeguarding is that the children are pretty comical and I definitely laughed a lot watching them play around. I could easily tell that everyone was having the best times of their lives splashing around in the pool, screaming with joy, and playing made up games. Even the ones who were quiet still had delighted expressions on their faces. Watching the kids laugh and play all day is one of the best things about the job, but the only thing better is that I get rewarded by getting paid.
